The Subframe's construction is the point. Rather than a full frame that adds bulk, or a truly frameless build that loses shape retention over time, Atomic bonds a minimal skeleton frame into the skirt. The result keeps internal volume low — less air to clear, less effort to equalise — while the mask holds its form and seals predictably dive after dive. At 180 g it packs small and adds nothing meaningful to a dive bag.

Optically it uses curved tempered glass, which resists scratching and impact while widening what you can see. Divers consistently single out the downward field of view, which is the direction that matters when you are checking a gauge, a console or your own weight pockets. The ultra-clear silicone skirt carries dual feathered sealing edges rather than a single lip, so a small shift during a dive does not immediately break the seal — a practical advantage in current or when a hood pulls at the strap.

The buckle system sits low against the skirt and adjusts one-handed, which is exactly what you want with cold hands or thick gloves, and the wide contoured strap spreads pressure rather than pinching over a long dive. Two caveats. The nose pocket is on the snug side and divers with larger noses should try it first. And the ultra-clear silicone that gives such good peripheral light transmission will yellow slightly across years of UV exposure — cosmetic, but real.
