The Peregrine puts the Bühlmann ZHL-16C algorithm with configurable gradient factors behind a two-button interface and a 2.2 inch full-colour transflective display, rated to 200 m. It charges over USB-C with a AA backup option and syncs to Shearwater Cloud over Bluetooth. Air integration is available through an optional transmitter rather than built in.
The Peregrine is the honest recreational Shearwater: same algorithm engine and same screen as the technical models, with the complexity removed rather than the quality. Two buttons means you can drive it in gloves without memorising sequences. It is bulky on a small wrist, air integration costs extra, and the menu still asks for a little study — but the firmware upgrade path means it grows rather than expires.
Shearwater built the Peregrine as the entry point to its range, and the important detail is what did not get cut. The decompression engine is the same Bühlmann ZHL-16C with configurable gradient factors that technical divers run on the Perdix, and the screen is the same 2.2 inch full-colour transflective panel that stays readable in bright sun and in murky water. Two buttons drive the whole computer, which sounds limiting on land and turns out to be the right call underwater in gloves, where fewer choices means fewer mistakes. Display screens are customisable so no-decompression limit, depth, dive time or gas mix can take priority depending on how you dive. The firmware carries a predictive multi-gas and CCR-ready upgrade path, so the computer follows a diver into more demanding training instead of being replaced at the first course.
Power comes from a rechargeable lithium-ion cell over USB-C, with a single AA as a swappable backup — a sensible hedge for trips where mains power is unreliable. Bluetooth syncs logs to Shearwater Cloud and delivers firmware updates. Air integration is supported but the transmitter is a separate purchase, so budget for it if tank pressure on the wrist matters to you. The physical caveat is size: the puck form factor is bulky on smaller wrists, and there is no way around that.
